FLAT_land, Delft
During September and October 2009 I was living and working in flats primed for demolition as a resident artist. My work in Poptahof was a continuation of my investigations into sensory awareness of architecture.
FIS, Passionfruit Theatre Athlone

During this residency I investigated radiowaves and architecture in relation to the built environment of Athlone town and Passionfruit Theatre space. Initially I was spurred into exploring this aspect of constructed space by the presence of an old antenna on the Passionfruit building’s gable that I noticed during the initial sit-visit. I soon became aware of a plethora of masts and aerials in the town. Athlone’s geographic position lends itself to be a natural hub for radiowave activity in the country. Athlone is the old site of RTE’s main mast for AM wave propagation, a major telephone exchange still operates from the base of the iconic red and white mast in the town centre and mobile phone companies continue to sprout aerials throughout the locality. The final artwork examined both the architecture supporting radio communication and the radiowaves themselves as ever present fluid structures. My research was influenced by my interest in sensory awareness of constructed space and addressed how these waves interact with space, buildings, and their occupants.

The Space Programme(Performance Corporation)
*Stalactites in the Red Silk Room
The Space Programme Residency was facilitated by The Performance Corporation and took place in their company base in Castletown House during March 2008. Artists from the various fields of theatre, fine art, dance, music and architecture came together for two intensive weeks of exploring and expanding our practices. Improvised collaborations were heavily site responsive and the grand stone surrounds of Irelands largest and grandest Palladian country house provided rich spaces to incubate the tangent ideas of our usual preoccupations.
*Chewed bone and oil dogs
*One of several collaborations I engaged with during the residency, these projected interventions are part of a series of work that I made with Christine Fentz, focusing on the idea of residues inside and outside the house, inside and outside of eras, overlapping and inter-playing these residues and spaces.
Greenstar
During her site-specific investigations into alchemy the artist constructed a greenhouse largely (from mainly waste materials and litter catcher frames) on the freshly filled face of a landfill. The heat generated by the process of biodegradation nurtured an array of scented flowers, herbs, and citrus trees during cold autumn months, aiding their growth. As diggers and trucks rumbled past everything shook slightly releasing aromas into the air… The full work will be exhibited early in 2009.
