Concha Nasalis, 2009
This collection of work was made for exhibition during Flat_land in Poptahof Delft. The works are a series of interventions and responses to the soon to be demolished block of flats in which they are exhibited. Draughts, slopes of heat, soft haze of odours, echoes, rustles and weight were balanced together in the space of one apartment. Sublimed in the Heat of the Mouth was a spectacle of non-visual architectural elements and a funnel for sensory information about the building. Small elements of place are examined and transformed into parts of a bolder arrangment of building materials and sensory markers.
In Concha Nasalis a small image of sinus cavities drew awareness to a remarkable yet subtle natural archiving of draughts upon the grimey walls of the apartment. With In the Dark Gut of the Building one entered a dry windowless shower chamber where the stuffy atmosphere was shaken only by a fuzzy soundscape and text looped on cassette. In the kitchen people pressed their ears to the glass window boundary, pressed against the panorama of high rises, scaffolds and cranes to the east, to hear clearly the audio of Hover. Seep. The audience was strategically encouraged to attune to the space, seek out subtle intervention, physically lean and experience the building. Such physical interactions were counterpointered by the elements of research diplayed within the space, including audio interviews with long term resident architects and surveys collected in the street outside. Visitors to the exhibit could also contribute to the surveys to be archived by the Dublin City Agency for the Investigation of Sensory Awareness of Constructed Space.

Car Art Delft, the Netherlands 2009
Velour Peristalsis, 2009
Hand sewn car cover composed of discarded curtains and other domestic fabrics, stereo audio piece (4 mins 34 secs), shampoo, newspapers.
Velour Peristals is explores the sensory experience of the architecture of a car. The piece draws links between car interiors, our own bodily interiors and various cultural practices of caring for cars and our bodies. The exterior cover is influenced by vernacular car covers as improvised by car owners in Egypt and serves to heighten the sensory realm inside. The blacked out interior involves the audience in an immersive experience of space, scent and pre-recorded text and sound*.

Tastes Like Lego, 2008
Tastes Like Lego explored architecture and how we perceive space. The project instigated new research by the Dublin City Agency of Investigations in Sensory Awareness of Constructed Space,a body recently established by the artist.
During the Agency’s temporary location in Barnardos Sq. Dublin during Culturstruction, archive research was available and public questionnaires were continued to be carried out, a sound piece was installed (derived from an interview with Joe Bollard editor of Focus magazine for the blind), a buffet of buildings was available for tasting, and a construction material library was also available for public sensory perusal. An alternative tour was offered during which four participants were blindfolded and asissted by individual guides through two landmark Dublin city buildings, New development Palace Offices and City Hall on Dame Street. The hour long tour was led orally by the artist who incorporated architectural theory, memories, the science of perception, poetic ponderings and the immediate sense stimulation of the surrounding environments into the tours intermittent narration.
The tour was fully booked and the agency will continue its research, locally and internationally.
Tastes Like Lego was presented as part of Culturstruction 08, in conjunction with the Irish Architecture Foundation’s Open House event, Friday 17th – Sun 19th 2008. Culturstruction is part of Dublin City Council’s Open Spaces programme.

Alchemy, 2007 (greenstar residency)
During site-specific investigations into alchemy the artist constructed a greenhouse largely (from mainly waste materials and litter catcher frames) on the freshly filled face of a landfill. The heat generated by the process of biodegradation nurtured an array of scented flowers, herbs, and citrus trees during cold autumn months, aiding their growth. As diggers and trucks rumbled past everything shook slightly releasing aromas into the air… The full work will be exhibited early in 2009.
